Deadband
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001597
A range of input values for which a control system or sensor produces no output or response. This intentional insensitivity prevents rapid cycling or oscillation around a setpoint due to minor fluctuations or noise. For example, a thermostat might have a deadband of 2 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning it will not activate heating or cooling until the temperature deviates by at least that amount.
