Dead-air space
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001596
A confined pocket of air that is intentionally trapped within a building assembly, such as between layers of insulation or within a double-pane window. This stationary air acts as an insulator, reducing heat transfer by convection and conduction. The effectiveness of a dead-air space depends on its thickness and the prevention of air movement within the cavity.
