Dead air

A volume of air that remains stagnant or trapped within an enclosed space, preventing effective ventilation or heat transfer. This condition can occur in poorly designed HVAC systems or in insulation layers where air movement is intentionally restricted. Dead air spaces are often exploited in thermal insulation to reduce heat conduction.
