Lithobraking

A method of decelerating a spacecraft by intentionally crashing it into the surface of a celestial body. This technique is employed when a controlled landing is not feasible or when the mission objective involves studying the impact event itself. Lithobraking is an uncontrolled and destructive maneuver, often used for end-of-life spacecraft.
