Automatic distance control
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000334
A driver assistance system that automatically adjusts a vehicle's speed to keep a safe following distance from the car ahead. It uses radar, lidar or camera sensors to measure the gap and relative speed of the vehicle in front, and it accelerates or brakes the car as needed. The system is also called adaptive cruise control; early versions worked only at higher speeds, whereas full-speed-range versions brake the car to a standstill.
