Backplane
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006772
A circuit board assembly that serves as the structural and electrical backbone for a modular electronic system, containing slots or sockets for connecting multiple printed circuit boards. It provides the physical connections and power distribution pathways between the inserted cards, such as processor, input/output, and communication modules. Systems in utility control centers use passive backplanes, where all active circuitry resides on plug-in cards, or active backplanes that contain some processing logic.
