Balling

The accumulation of snow, ice, or mud on the hooves of livestock, particularly horses, which can cause discomfort, lameness, and an increased risk of injury. This condition is common in winter or wet conditions when soft material packs into the concavity of the hoof. Special shoes or hoof dressings are used to prevent balling.
