Binding
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000556
The unwanted adhesion or seizing of moving parts within a machine or assembly, preventing free movement. Binding occurs when excessive friction, thermal expansion, misalignment, or contamination causes components to stick together instead of sliding or rotating as designed. This condition can lead to increased wear, component failure, or complete stoppage of a mechanism, such as a piston seizing within its cylinder.
