Blackleg

A highly fatal bacterial disease in cattle and sheep, caused by the anaerobic, spore-forming bacterium Clostridium chauvoei. The infection causes gaseous swelling in the muscles, lameness, and rapid death, with affected muscle tissue appearing black and spongy upon necropsy. The disease is almost entirely preventable through vaccination, with calves typically vaccinated between two and six months of age.
