Blue box

A type of plastic electrical enclosure used in residential and light commercial construction for mounting switches, outlets, and light fixtures. Made from PVC or other non-conductive polymers, these boxes are designed for use with non-metallic sheathed cable and are nailed or screwed directly to wood or steel studs. Their blue color distinguishes them from other types, such as gray PVC boxes intended for outdoor or conduit applications and metallic boxes required in other situations.
