Blue stain

A discoloration in wood caused by certain types of fungi that feed on the cell contents, not the wood fibers themselves. This fungal growth imparts a bluish-gray or blackish hue to the sapwood. Blue stain does not affect the structural strength of the timber but reduces its aesthetic appeal.
