Boilerplate
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000671
A mass-simulator spacecraft or capsule used for testing and qualification of a launch vehicle and ground support systems before a flight with the actual, operational spacecraft. Constructed from heavy steel plates, it is designed to mimic the weight, shape, and center of gravity of the final flight hardware. Boilerplate tests validate structural loads on the rocket, launch pad interfaces, and recovery procedures without risking the more expensive flight-ready vehicle.
