Boss up

To work a corner or angle in sheet lead into shape by dressing it with a bossing mallet and bossing stick, so the metal turns the angle without a cut or an open gap. The soft lead is stretched and moved gradually over a former or the surface beneath it rather than being soldered or folded. It is a traditional leadwork skill used on roof flashings and other sheet lead details.
