Taft

To spread the end of a lead pipe outward into a bell mouth or thin flange by driving a tapered wooden tool called a tanpin into it. The flared end then receives a pipe end shaped to a taper, and the two are sealed with wiped solder to form a taft joint. It is a traditional leadwork step used on waste, vent and overflow pipes.
