Brayer
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000751
A hand tool consisting of a roller, a handle, and a frame, used for applying a thin, even layer of ink or other fluid to a surface. The roller, made of rubber, gelatin, or polyurethane, picks up ink from a slab and transfers it to a printing plate, block, or other substrate. Brayers are classified by the durometer (hardness) of the roller surface, with softer rollers used for uneven surfaces and harder rollers for fine detail on smooth plates.
