Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007052
To apply a layer of ink to the printing plate, form, or image carrier of a press before making an impression. This process involves transferring ink from a fountain through a series of rollers, called the ink train, which mill the ink to the correct consistency and thickness for printing. The final roller in the train applies a uniform film of ink directly to the plate's image areas.
