Friar

A printing defect characterized by an area of insufficient ink coverage, resulting in a lighter or faded appearance on the printed sheet. This occurs when the inking rollers fail to distribute ink evenly across the type or plate. Friars are the opposite of 'monks,' which are areas with too much ink.
