Bti
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000805
A strain of the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis, named israelensis, whose spores and protein crystals kill the larvae of mosquitoes, blackflies and fungus gnats. The larvae die after swallowing the crystals, which the alkaline gut of these flies activates. It is applied to water as granules, briquettes or liquid, and it has little effect on most other animals, though some non-biting midge larvae are also susceptible.
