Buscon

An independent prospector or miner, particularly in historical Spanish or Latin American mining contexts. These individuals searched for mineral deposits on their own account or worked small claims under a tribute system. Under this system, the buscon would pay a percentage of the ore or its value to the owner of the mineral rights.
