A self-contained valve mechanism within a faucet that controls the flow and temperature of water. It consists of a cylindrical unit containing ceramic discs or rubber seals that rotate or move to mix hot and cold water and regulate volume. Replacing a worn cartridge can often repair a leaking faucet without needing to replace the entire fixture, with common sizes including 35mm and 40mm diameters.
