A measurement, known as a Cooling Degree Day, that quantifies the demand for energy needed to cool a building. It is calculated for a single day by taking the difference between the daily mean outdoor temperature and a fixed base temperature, provided the mean is higher than the base. The sum of daily CDD values over a month or year is used by power utilities and building managers to estimate air conditioning energy consumption and forecast electrical load.
