Cockade
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001211
A national roundel painted on the fuselage and wings of military aircraft to show their country of origin, typically a set of concentric colored rings, as in the red, white and blue roundel of the RAF. The name comes from the ribbon rosettes worn on hats, and the French tricolor cockade of the First World War was among the earliest aircraft markings. The US instead uses a white star on a blue disc with flanking bars.
