Day letter
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006908
A telegraphic message service that offered a lower rate than a standard full-rate telegram in exchange for deferred delivery. A day letter could be filed with the telegraph company at any time but was transmitted during periods of lower traffic and delivered on the same day it was sent. This service was a mid-priced option between the immediate, expensive telegram and the slower, cheaper overnight letter, which was delivered the following morning.
