Drop hammer
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001882
A type of forging hammer that lifts a heavy ram and releases it to fall under gravity, striking a workpiece positioned on an anvil. The immense force of the impact plastically deforms the metal, forcing it to conform to the shape of the dies. Drop hammers are classified by the method used to lift the ram, such as by a board, belt, or direct air or steam power.
