Dutchman

A piece of wood inserted into a larger piece to repair a defect, fill a knot hole, or cover a mistake. This repair technique involves cutting out the damaged area and fitting a new, matching piece of wood precisely into the void. A well-executed dutchman can be nearly invisible and restore the integrity of the timber.
