Duty cycle

The ratio of the duration of an active period (or pulse width) to the total period of a repetitive waveform or signal. It is expressed as a percentage or a fraction, indicating the proportion of time a system or component is in an 'on' state. A 50% duty cycle means the signal is active for half of its period.
