Entrance

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002048

The immersed forward part of a ship's hull that cuts through the water as the vessel moves ahead. Its shape, from the stem back to the point of maximum beam, determines the wave resistance and overall hydrodynamic efficiency of the hull. A fine or sharp entrance creates less resistance at high speeds, while a fuller or blunter entrance provides greater buoyancy and cargo capacity.
