Bulb
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000833
A protrusion at the bow of a ship below the waterline, known as a bulbous bow, designed to reduce wave-making resistance and improve fuel efficiency. It creates its own wave system that interferes destructively with the ship's main bow wave. This design is particularly effective for vessels operating at high speeds relative to their length, such as container ships.
