Forefoot

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002402

The lower end of a vessel's stem, where it curves aft to meet the forward end of the keel, below the waterline at the bow. In a wooden hull it is also the name of the curved timber forming this joint. A cut-away forefoot reduces underwater lateral area forward, which makes a sailing yacht turn more readily than a full forefoot does.
