An abbreviation for Cargo Hold, the primary space within a ship's hull designated for the stowage of cargo. These compartments are separated by bulkheads to provide structural support and isolate different types of goods. Holds are numbered sequentially from the bow to the stern, such as CH No. 1, CH No. 2, and so on.
