Buttock
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000880
A longitudinal plane cutting through a ship's hull parallel to the centerline plane, used in naval architecture to define the vessel's shape. The intersection of this plane with the hull plating creates a curved line, known as a buttock line, which is shown in the sheer plan of a lines drawing. These lines reveal the form of the stern and the fairness of the hull's curvature from bow to stern.
