Eyebar

A structural tension member with a solid, uniform cross-section and enlarged, circular heads at each end containing a pin hole. These bars are connected with large steel pins to form the chains of a suspension bridge or the lower chord of a truss bridge. Eyebar chains were a common feature in 19th and early 20th-century bridge construction, predating the widespread use of high-strength steel cables.
