Flotation
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002365
A mineral processing technique that separates valuable minerals from gangue by exploiting differences in their surface properties. Air bubbles are introduced into a pulp of finely ground ore and water, with chemicals added to make the desired minerals hydrophobic. These minerals attach to the bubbles and rise to the surface, forming a froth that is then collected.
