Forgeable

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002408

Describing a metal or alloy with sufficient ductility and malleability to be shaped by forging, which involves localized compressive forces from hammering or pressing. A material's forgeability depends on its crystal structure, temperature, and composition, as these factors determine its ability to deform without cracking. Most metals have a specific temperature range for optimal forging; for steel, this range is typically between 950 and 1250 degrees Celsius.
