Framing square

A large, L-shaped steel or aluminum tool used by carpenters and builders for laying out and marking building frames. It consists of a longer, wider arm called the blade and a shorter, narrower arm called the tongue, which meet at a precise 90-degree angle. The faces of the square are inscribed with measurement scales and tables for calculating rafter lengths, stair stringers, and brace angles.
