Miter square

A hand tool for marking and verifying 45-degree and 90-degree angles, primarily for creating miter joints. It consists of a stock, held against the edge of the workpiece, and a blade fixed at a 45-degree angle to the stock. Unlike an adjustable combination square, the miter square is a fixed-angle tool dedicated to these two common angles, providing a quick reference for layout and inspection.
