Gimbal

A pivoted support that allows an object to rotate about a single axis, or a series of such supports that permit rotation about multiple axes. Gimbals are used to keep instruments or cameras level, regardless of the motion of the supporting vehicle. They are found in gyroscopes, compasses, and camera stabilizers.
