Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002577

The outermost edge or perimeter of a cut gemstone, separating the upper portion (crown) from the lower portion (pavilion). In the context of diamond mining and processing, it represents the widest part of the stone and is assessed for its thickness, which affects the gem's durability and how it is set in jewelry. The girdle's finish, which may be faceted, polished, or bruted (unfinished), is a characteristic noted on a gemological grading report.
