Underwrap

A layer of material placed directly on a roller or cylinder before the main outer covering is applied. It provides cushioning, builds up the diameter, or protects the core from adhesives or chemicals used with the top layer. This underlayer is common in textile and printing industries where rollers process web materials, and its thickness and density are chosen to achieve specific processing characteristics.
