Matchbox skirt

A straight, boxy skirt with a rectangular outline, named for its likeness to a matchbox and cut without flare, pleats, or gathers. It hangs from the waist to about the knee, with minimal seaming and sometimes a back vent for walking ease. The name is dated, and newspaper advertisements from 1962 and 1963 already used it.
