To join planks edge to edge by chamfering their edges so that the two overlap, leaving a smooth, flush surface across the seam. Each plank is bevelled along the joining edge on opposite faces, so that the bevels lie against each other and the outer faces stay level. The method is used for ship bulkheads and similar boarding.
