GMPLS
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002597
An extension of the Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) protocol that supports a wider variety of network technologies beyond packet-based switching. Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) can manage traffic across networks that use time-division multiplexing, wavelength-division multiplexing, and fiber-optic switching. This control plane protocol unifies the management of different network layers, from packet-switched data to optical transport networks, under a single framework defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
