Grass-cock
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002633
A small, conical pile of mown grass or hay left in a field to dry before being gathered into a larger stack. Workers raked the cut grass into these mounds to allow air to circulate and cure the forage, protecting it from ground moisture. This traditional method contrasts with modern haymaking, which uses machinery like balers to create dense, transportable bales.
