Helper grade

A section of railway track with a steep incline that necessitates the use of additional locomotives to assist a train in ascending the gradient. These helper locomotives provide extra tractive effort to prevent stalling or excessive speed reduction. Helper grades are common in mountainous regions or areas with challenging topography.
