Hot metal

A traditional method of typesetting where individual characters or entire lines of type are cast in molten metal, typically lead alloy, directly from matrices. This process was prevalent before the advent of phototypesetting and digital methods. Linotype and Monotype machines are examples of hot metal typesetting systems.
