An interchangeable freight container designed for transport by multiple modes, such as ship, rail, and truck, without unloading and reloading its contents. These standardized steel boxes facilitate efficient global trade by conforming to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) dimensions. Common lengths for an Intermodal Container Unit (ICU) are 20 feet, which defines a twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), and 40 feet.
