Joint line

A section of railway trackage that is owned or operated jointly by two or more separate railroad companies. This arrangement allows multiple carriers to share infrastructure, reducing construction and maintenance costs while providing access to new markets. Operational agreements for joint lines specify responsibilities for dispatching, maintenance, and revenue allocation among the participating railroads.
