Leyden jar

An early form of electrical capacitor used to store a static electric charge. It consists of a glass jar coated on both the inside and outside with metal foil, with a conductive rod passing through the lid to the inner foil. This device was instrumental in early experiments with electricity and can store charges up to several kilovolts.
