Livestock unit

A standard measurement used to aggregate different types of farm animals into a single figure for comparison and management purposes. The conversion factor for each animal type is based on its feed consumption relative to a reference animal, which is typically a dairy cow. For example, under EU regulations, a dairy cow equals 1.0 LU, while a pig over 20 kg is 0.3 LU and a sheep is 0.1 LU.
