A unit of catalytic activity, representing one thousandth (10^-3) of a katal. The katal is the SI unit for measuring the activity of an enzyme or other catalyst, defined as the amount of catalyst that converts one mole of reactant per second. This unit is applied in industrial enzyme production and biochemical analysis to express catalytic rates.
